Joaquín Blaya

During September and October 2010, the OpenMRS community nominated individuals to serve for and represent the community on the new, not-for-profit organization’s board of directors.  From 29 November to 12 December 2010, an open election was conducted to elect one member from the group of nominees.

We are pleased to announce that Joaquín Blaya has been elected to serve the first, two-year term for the Community Board Member position on the board of directors.

Joaquín was born and currently lives in Chile. He received a Master of Science degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (US) in the field of rehabilitation and robotics. He worked with Partners in Health (PIH) and received a PhD from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. His project work involved implementing and carrying out pioneering evaluation studies on information systems in the National Tuberculosis Program in Peru. Joaquín is co-founder of eHealth Systems, a Chilean company providing eHealth strategy and open source solutions, including OpenMRS, in developing countries. He also works as a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School, and is a moderator of the Global Health Delivery Project Health IT community of practice.

Please join us in congratulating Joaquín!
