The OpenMRS community brings together a diverse group of organizations and individuals with expertise in healthcare, global health, software development, quality assurance, and implementation. These contributors bring a wide range of skill sets together and work collaboratively to build and maintain a robust, electronic medical record system platform.

Implementers: Bringing OpenMRS to Communities

OpenMRS implementers and service providers are at the heart of bringing OpenMRS to life in real-world settings. The community maintains core tools such as community modules, the Reference Application, infrastructure, and frameworks that make it easier to adapt and deploy OpenMRS.

This foundation allows partners to focus on what matters most: customizing the platform and modules to meet the unique needs of countries, health systems, and individual health facilities. Together, we make OpenMRS responsive, flexible, and impactful.

OpenMRS Inc: Fiscal, Legal, and Infrastructure Support

Keeping OpenMRS alive and growing is a big effort. It means maintaining the OpenMRS Platform, updating the Reference Application, supporting community modules, and making sure the infrastructure that connects our global community stays reliable. None of this happens without dedicated resources.

OpenMRS Inc, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, exists to make sure this work can continue. It provides the fiscal and legal foundation that keeps our community safe, manages the infrastructure we all rely on, and offers leadership to help guide the project into the future. With OpenMRS Inc handling these essential responsibilities, our community can focus on what we do bestโ€”building open-source tools that improve health care around the world.

OpenMRS Global Support Team: Coordinating and nurturing our community

One of the ways we support our mission is by nurturing a Global Support Team.

Every person on our small OpenMRS Global Support Team is passionate about our mission, dedicated to helping each other and our open source community thrive. We work with community members, implementers, and developers all over the globe, remote and with travel. We provide critical support to community members with our Product Support or Community Management & Operations Support teams.

  • Community Management & Operations Support Team: We are community managers, program managers, events and communications professionals. We keep our community running smoothly, onboard and connect community members, and raise the visibility of our communityโ€™s achievements.
  • Product Support Team: We are developers, product managers, quality assurance PMs, and designers working together to support community-requested momentum.
  • Fellowships: The OpenMRS Fellowship Program aims to expand our communityโ€™s capacity by providing practical opportunities to develop advanced skill sets with the support and guidance of mentors and other technical experts.
