WorkingGroups

Introduction

This page coordinates efforts between the many interested groups in the OpenMRS universe. The idea is to identify informal "Working Groups" for each area of development (programming, not organizational or geographic), providing the opportunity for everyone to get some idea what everyone else is doing. Participation is of course not mandatory, but simply encouraged. This is loose, community driven project management.

Working groups are not mutually exclusive. It's ok for their concerns to overlap. Similarly, categorization isn't definitive, but suggestive. The scope and duration of a working group can be broad and long or narrow and short -- if you feel motivated to inform others about some activity that doesn't otherwise have visibility, add it here.

What's important here is that a Working Group is driven by the activity of its members. It is a simple way to recognize and identify common interest. A working group doesn't dictate what people should do, it expresses what people are doing (it is descriptive rather than definitive).

So, if you want to get involved with the OpenMRS community this is the place to start. Take a look at what is going on, think about what you'd like to do, talk to the people working in that area, and just start playing along.

Field Guide

The OpenMRS Field Guide is a new and (very) incomplete resource that aims to help implementers with the nuts and bolts of beginning and sustaining a successful implementation of OpenMRS, from securing electricity to maintaining data quality.

Members: Isaac Holeman, Michael Downey

Point of Care

Work Group Deliverables:

  • Describe potential benefits of point of care systems
  • Collect case studies of point of care systems in resource poor settings.
  • Describe challenges faced by implementers of above case studies.
  • Write specifications for how OpenMRS community can address these challenges by:
    • Using thin clients or mobile devices that are appropriate to point of care
    • Adapting user interface to support point of care
    • Adapting data model/software design to support point of care
