Using the installer:

The installer installs the following applications:

Load the installer by double-clicking on the EXE that you downloaded from the OpenMRS website. Once it loads, simply follow the on-screen instructions. Here are some helpful tips that you can reference while installing OpenMRS:

  • Please be patient as you wait for the installer to complete. It has to decompress A LOT of information and this does take some time. Once the installer has completed.
  • The defaults are there for a reason. You can safely use the defaults for any of the OpenMRS install options when they are given to you. This is especially true on a "clean" system with no prior installs of any of the above mentioned applications.
  • When you are prompted for the MySQL and Tomcat username/password/port, please keep in mind that if you do not already have those applications installed, you are to choose what you'd like to use for those pieces of information. If you happen to have either of those applications installed, you need to enter that current information so that OpenMRS can access it.
  • Demo patient data is not required, but it could be useful to some. Feel free to make your own decision when prompted about installing it.

That's it! Open up Firefox and direct your browser to your new OpenMRS installation. Depending on the port number and webapp name that you selected the URL will vary for everyone, but the format for the URL is "http://xx.xx.xx.xx:portnumber/webappname/"

There will be 4 icons in the Start Menu, one provides an uninstall option. Currently, the uninstaller doesn't really do a whole lot, but that's going to change soon as well. Please note that running the uninstaller will also remove MySQL and Tomcat because they are installed to the OpenMRS install folder.
